7 Things That Will Improve Your Morning Routine

Do you have a morning routine set in place each day? Creating a set routine every morning helps to increase productivity during the day. I am not just referring to work-related tasks either. Squeezing time in the morning to take of yourself and do something good for you, is just as important! So let’s start tomorrow morning off the right way, by following including these seven things into your morning routine before 9 AM!

Side note: I am now going to try to include outfit inspiration in these type of posts as well. I want to create content that has a little something for every reader! Let me know what your thoughts are about this in the comments below! 

Morning Routine Schedule To Follow

1. Clear Your Mind

Our brains are like the rest of our body and need a break from everything. You may be thinking, “Well I just slept for 8 hours, my mind doesn’t need another break?”, But actually, it might need silence more than you think! So to gain clarity, try prayer and/or meditation first thing.

Every morning, I start my day off with both and can definitely tell a difference in my day. I actually don’t even get out of bed yet for this step. Personally, I think it is, even more, relaxing to do this step in bed. It helps to wake up my mind before trying to get ready.

When we let go of our worries and thoughts, we have the clarity to make essential decisions. Sometimes when you have like five billion things going on in your head at once (welcome to my brain), it can cloud our judgment. You might make mistakes on that you usually would not make with a clear head. So try this right off the bat each morning, to start your day off on a positive note!

2. Physical Activity

Okay, so we all know that exercise is vital for staying fit and healthy. Did you know that it helps you focus and stay energized during the day as well? Setting aside time every morning to work out will make you feel refreshed by the time you get to work.

Exercise isn’t fun for everyone, so find things that you enjoy to do that are still considered physical activity. For example, I love doing yoga in the morning time. Yoga completely calms me before I try to tackle a laundry list of to-do’s each day. If you have never tried it, I highly suggest that you give it a go because you just might love it!

3. Get Ready

So this part is really for those of us who work from home, and have the option to stay in our PJs all day. Even though this sounds like a perk, I would limit this to at the most once a week. Our appearance sometimes can affect our mood. 

If you are chilling in your pajamas/sweats all day, chances are you might feel lazy and less focused. I am not saying that you need to go put on a business suit because you still want to be comfortable during the day. My go-to outfit is jeans/pants and either a cute blouse or fun graphic tee. Also, it’s nice to be ready just in case you need to run a last-minute errand. So include this step into your morning routine to feel confident throughout the day.

4. “Me” Time

One of the most important things that you can do for yourself is set aside some “me” time. I like to call it “me” time because it is an uninterrupted break that I give myself every morning to do something that I love. Don’t judge but this even includes catching up on the Bachelor on Tuesday mornings.

When I start my morning routine off doing something I actually enjoy, I have found that I work harder during the day. When the Bachelor isn’t on, I usually take this time to put on a facial mask and read a book. It is also an excellent time for you to maybe work on a personal project. If you love to write, keeping a gratitude or reflection journal is a positive way to start your morning.

5. Clean Up As You Go

Cleaning is the last thing we want to do when we get home from work. Which is why when the weekend rolls around, the dishes are piled up, and your closet is a disaster. Try to remember every morning to pick up things as you go. Then, you won’t feel that pressure of dealing with it after work. Your morning will start off productive, plus it’s one more thing that you can check off your task list.

6. Spend Time With Your Family

If your family has similar schedules, the morning is a great way to spend time together. One thing that Phillip & I try to do every morning walks with our dog, Piper. Talk about killing three birds with one stone! So we are not only spending quality time together but exercising and checking off one of our daily tasks.

You can also spend time with family by having breakfast together at the table. For couples who love working out, take a morning workout class with each other. So set aside time in your morning routine to start the day off right with the ones you love.

7. Learn Something New

Call me a nerd, but I actually enjoy learning new things. For me, I really like learning about new technology and researching business topics now that I have my own business. You may want to learn a new language or want to learn how to improve yourself in specific areas (ex: time management).

So why not block off at least 30 minutes to do this for yourself. I allow myself 30 minutes to 1 hour every morning to research articles, listen to podcasts, or read a book. Do you feel like you are too busy? Why not listen to a podcast on the way to work? Or read while walking on the treadmill? Where there is a will, there is a way!

So starting tomorrow morning, try to include at least three of these things into your daily routine. After a week, add another one to the list, then after a while, you will be checking all of these off each day. You will feel better about life and more productive by creating a quick morning routine like this one!
